Maison de la Photographie

A museum of Morocco’s visual memory: rare photographs from 1870 to 1960 in an old house, and a rooftop overlooking the medina and the Atlas.

Maison de la Photographie

The story — Maison de la Photographie

Collectors Patrick Manac’h and Hamid Mergani founded the Maison de la Photographie in 2009 in a restored traditional house on Rue Ahl Fès. The idea is simple and powerful: to show Moroccans and visitors what Morocco looked like a century ago.

Its three floors present selections from thousands of original prints, postcards and documents showing souks, kasbahs, faces and festivities in cities, villages and the Atlas mountains, roughly between 1870 and 1960.

On the top floor, the rooftop and its simple café offer one of the finest views over the old city. Just two minutes from the Marrakech Museum and the Ben Youssef Madrasa.
